Framework
The Index evaluates whether industrial organizations can see the AI they use, control risk and policy, prove what happened, and improve governance as systems and operations change.
Know what AI exists and who owns it - across enterprise tools, plants and third parties.
Control risk, policies, approvals, access and human oversight where AI can act.
Measure, monitor and evidence AI activity with records that stand up to scrutiny.
Reassess, adapt, change and strengthen governance as adoption expands.
Operating reality
Generic AI policy checklists do not fully address distributed industrial AI operations.
Enterprise AI becomes harder when systems span plants, production, engineering IP, quality, maintenance, supply chain, employee tools, third-party models, agents and multiple countries.
Local teams can adopt models that corporate IT never inventories. A failed provider can interrupt a production process. Governance must reach the shop floor without slowing legitimate operations.
Governance system
A coherent system - not a checklist. Dimensions are grouped by the capability they strengthen: See, Control, Prove, Improve.
Executive lens
Designed for leaders accountable for enterprise AI risk, governance and adoption - the questions that reveal whether governance is real or aspirational.
Do we know what AI exists across the organization?
Who is accountable for each material AI system?
Can policy be technically enforced?
Can AI access sensitive engineering or IP data?
Can humans intervene in autonomous systems?
Can we prove what happened?
Can corporate governance see AI deployed at plant level?
Can we safely continue operations if critical AI fails?
Process
Organization profile and operating context for industrial AI.
Five questions across each of the ten dimensions, including critical controls.
AI adoption maturity, governance coverage and evidence confidence.
A confidential 10-page PDF with scores, gaps and a 90-day roadmap.
Output
Industry dataset
Participation contributes to an aggregated industrial governance dataset. Peer comparisons are published only when sample size supports the claim - never as fabricated industry averages.
Credibility

This is a self-reported governance maturity benchmark, not a legal, regulatory or certification assessment. Results should be validated against applicable legal, regulatory, contractual and internal requirements.

FAQ

A leader who can speak to enterprise AI risk and governance - typically CIO, CISO, CTO, CDO / Head of AI, digital transformation, or compliance / DPO - often with input from plant or operations IT.
Yes. Company scores are confidential by default. Aggregated research uses anonymized data once the cohort is large enough. Individual scores are not published without explicit opt-in.
Each of the ten dimensions has five questions. Maturity answers score on a fixed scale; overall governance maturity is the unweighted average of dimension scores. AI Adoption, coverage and evidence confidence are calculated separately. Versions are stored with each assessment so later methodology revisions do not silently rewrite history.
Peer comparisons depend on dataset size: no percentile below 20 completed assessments; preliminary averages from 20; preliminary percentile from 50; formal percentile from 100; Governance Leader eligibility from 250+. Until thresholds are met, the Index states that the benchmark is developing.
No. It is a self-reported governance maturity benchmark - not a legal, regulatory or certification assessment.
